Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2014 | Decadent, Authoritative and Powerful!
Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2014 offers purple-black with dark ruby hues at the rim. Adding Boisterous pops of black cherry, blackberry and graphite notes lift from the glass. While exuberant, powerful, and energetic on entry, revealing layers of black and blue fruits. In addition, a bright acid-cut balancing out a decadent mid-palate tinged with sweet oak spice. Furthermore, fine-grained, beautifully structured tannins call cellar this one for a few years. Hence, drink now for its youthful hedonism or hold as complexities develop with time in the bottle until 2035. As a result, Winemaker Julien Fayard receives 97 Points from Wine Access.
The real knock-out is the Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2014. This is a superb example of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. A rather inky purple in color, with beautiful blackberry and cassis fruit, a touch of creosote, charcoal and some subtle background oak. Yet the wine hits the palate with authority, serious extract and richness. But enough acidity to frame up to its boisterous and exuberant parts. While it is a big, rich, concentrated, mouth-filling Cabernet Sauvignon with relatively sweet tannin. Most of all It should drink well for 15-20 years, possibly longer. 94 Points Robert Parker
Perfectly polished, sleek, and suave
While Fayard’s ascent into the elite circle of Napa Valley Cabernet-makers is no surprise. After completing his master’s degree in enology, the Saint-Etienne native was snapped up by Château Lafite-Rothschild. Immediately helping manage vineyard operations. Moving a year later to Napa Valley, landing a cellar job at Quintessa.
His approach to making Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon much resembles that of his mentors. While working with fruit drawn off the most priceless sites in the valley, Fayard is one of the very few winemakers who consistently turns out powerful Cabernets that straddle the line between the Old World and the New. Always deeply colored and intensely concentrated, Fayard’s wines are perfectly polished, sleek, and suave.
