Titus Andronicus Red Wine 2017 | Dark, Brooding Extravagant Red
Titus Andronicus Red Wine 2017 presents so purple it’s almost black. Ripe and chewy blueberry, boysenberry, and blackberry fruit aromas dance around notes of baking spice, licorice, cloves, and mocha. Forward and bold on the palate, black cherry and cassis flavors are complemented by espresso and spice notes, all on a background of plush, giving tannins. Drink now – 2025.
Titus Andronicus Red Wine 2017 is drawn from hand-tended vines a stone’s throw from Duckhorn in St. Helena, where the Titus Vineyards have been farmed by the family for over 30 years. 2017 produced a tiny crop, but the harvested fruit was pristine, full of small-berry clusters of excellent concentration and sturdy acid backbone.
The backstory | Phil Titus
How is it that we managed to get a hold of the limited Titus Andronicus Red Wine 2017 from one of the Valley’s most celebrated winemakers? Chalk it up to history. So, we’ve known Phil Titus for 25 years, his marine biologist brother Eric for a decade. But we can’t credit our solid relationship to personal history alone—we’ve got to hand it to our clients. Who has basically assured us of future allocations by taking home every drop of wine the brothers send our way.
Shakespeare’s Tragedy “Titus Andronicus”
We first offered winemaker Phil Titus’ Andronicus Proprietary Red back in 2014. Since then, our clients have been smitten with its dark, voluptuous power… and its price tag. And we can’t blame you. So to get an extravagant, deeply concentrated offering from Titus, the man responsible for countless 99-point scores at Chappellet, for this price, is a steal. And especially considering the vineyard sources: the Titus family’s pristinely manicured St. Helena estate. In addition several notable parcels throughout Napa and Sonoma.

Those incredible plantings form the backbone of the 2017 Andronicus, which bears the hallmark concentration of the vintage and the elegance of Titus’ deft touch. While terrifically concentrated, dense and almost chewy in texture. Yet the core is just packed with black fruit and mountain blueberry preserves, even as the wine remains high-toned and balanced. Hence, showing the pedigree of a bottling twice the price. We probably shouldn’t say this too loud, but if there was any question, this is a case buy. You’ll thank us later.
Andronicus – What and Why?
Having grown up in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, brothers Eric & Phillip Titus have ties to farmers growing grapes on some of the best vineyard sites available. Although the core of the Andronicus blends stems from the Titus Vineyards estates. Furthermore, by sourcing from friends, the Titus brothers are able to deliver wines that are as deep and as rich as the family values and history they sprang from.
Andronicus as a name appears throughout Greco-Roman History, and almost always in a leadership role. So the Titus brothers wanted to create a wine that would be a leader within its price point. Most of all a brand that would evoke the spirit of the victorious road warrior. Finally, to that end, they created the Andronicus Wines; wallet-friendly, approachable blends that are remembered long after they are enjoyed for their quality and affordability.
