Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2015 | Another great Tuscan Blend at a value price
James Suckling: 93 Points | The Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2015 exhibits plenty of currant, smoke and walnut shell aromas with a follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a slightly mouth-puckering finish. Made from a blend of Cabernet, Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah, and Teroldego.
Bright vibrant ruby and crimson highlights. The Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2015 offers beautiful ripe spiced cherry and plum, sweet tomato vine on the nose. I’ll make this one short. Last week, I first tasted this phenomenal Super Tuscan wine with our Master of Wine Matt Deller. We all loved it and when the price was revealed we nearly said in unison “I’m buying this. The 2015 Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso is vibrant with spiced red berry notes, savory pipe tobacco, and a juicy finish. Satta is a boutique artisan producer who has been hailed as “one of the pioneers in making high-class wines” in Bolgheri, by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. And in the ever-rising tidal wave of Super Tuscan reds, as prices continue to eek up well into the $40+ range, this is an under $25 gem — with a 93 point score from James Suckling — worth stockpiling.
About the wine
This wine is the expression of the vineyard (about 20 hectares) I planted in these last years thinking about the project “Bolgheri. The objective is to improve the characteristics of this terroir for a red wine with great character and pleasure. All the grapes are cultivated with traditionally and with care, in a high-density vineyard.

During the harvest, I select with manual work the grapes perfectly maturated and I make the fermentation without artificial yeasts, then manual submersions of the cap of the wine are carried out and pumping over procedures. After 12 months in barriques, the wine is bottled and remains in our cellar for 6 months before being sold.
About Michele Satta Winery
Because Satta favors Italy’s Sangiovese grape, he prefers to keep it a prominent component of his Super Tuscan blends. His 2015 Bolgheri Rosso finds 30% Sangiovese blended with, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Syrah, and 10% Teroldego. Teroldego is a grape native to Trentino in the northeast, which infuses a vibrant acid cut to the wine
The backstory on Satta begins in 1974, when he graduated with an agriculture degree from a leading Pisa institute and landed an internship working in the vineyards of Tuscany. Satta was smitten immediately and dove head-first into learning all he could about the land, the local ecosystems and their effects on the vines. By the early 1990s, his dream of owning his own vines was realized when he purchased 56 acres. Ever since he’s been a leading producer and pioneer of the Bolgheri Super Tuscan movement and a stalwart champion of Sangiovese.
Today, Satta brings a seasoned, mature understanding of balance in nature and connection to the land. He deftly, and humbly translates all he knows to his superb Bolgheri Rosso
