Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 | “A Knockout”
A “cru” made with Sangiovese and Merlot grapes grown on 6 hectares in the Siepi vineyard, one of the best estate parcels. Concentration and complexity make Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 a wine with an authentic and unique temperament. Most of all, monumentally built, crispy notes of elder, plum, berries, sandalwood, tobacco, with a very long, bright finish.
95+ – The Wine Advocate | Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 is a knockout wine that hits all the sense with just the right level of complexity. The wine is soft, brooding, velvety and long in persistence. It is made with equal parts Merlot and Sangiovese and both grapes bring their best assets to the blend. Sangiovese shows an upfront personality with territory-driven tones of small berry and spice. This grape also offers beautifully fresh acidity. The Merlot component plays a strong background role and adds softness, lushness, and richness. This is a new wine that needs a few more years of bottle aging.
More Accolades | Terrific | Drop Dead Gorgeous
95 Points – James Suckling | Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 is a wonderful follow-up to the superb 2012. Aromas are so intriguing with raspberry, blackberry, and lightly toasted fruits. Some black tea. Full body, and very compact. Toned and muscular tannins. Racy finish with bright acidity. Fascinating to taste (drink) now but this will be even better in 2019 and onwards.

93 Vinous | Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 is terrific. Precise and beautifully focused throughout, the 2013 offers up a compelling mélange of dark cherry/blueberry jam, sweet spices, menthol, licorice, and new leather. While unctuous to the core, the 2013 retains striking nuance and poise throughout. The 2013 is an exciting Siepi, but it needs time to unwind.
Drop Dead Gorgeous
96 IWR | Mazzei Siepi Fonterutoli 2013 is a drop-dead gorgeous blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot. As this slowly begins to unwind it releases seductive aromas of black cherries and cassis woven together with sweet exotic spices, pencil shavings and floral along with hints of tobacco and toasty nuances. On the palate, this is simply incredible as this impresses with its full body which is beautifully structured and demonstrates a remarkable depth and complex range of flavors which continue to expand through the finish. Overall, this impresses on all levels and even at this early stage it is already extremely appealing, however, it does require extended air contact to fully begin to express itself, nonetheless, this is an age-worthy wine which has the makeup to evolve for years in the cellar.
