Magic Door La Belle en Rosé 2017 | Perfect Year ‘round Enjoyment
So this is my first tasting of 90+ wines. Having worked with a number of excellent ‘private label’ wines from other partners, I said let’s give it a try. Well, this Magic Door La Belle en Rosé 2017 is really magical – a real win. The aromas immediately tell you this is going to be good. My wife snuck a taste while I was out of the room and exclaimed: “I really like it – who are these guys! It is the perfect year ‘round Rosé that’s incredibly versatile. Poultry, burgers – even hot dogs taste better. Consider a get-together with a smorgasbord of salmon, tuna, lamb, turkey, and beef sliders. Serve around cellar temp or a little cooler (50-55°F). Drink now through 2022.
More great Rosés
Magic Door La Belle en Rosé 2017 presents pale pink. With elegant aromas of strawberries and watermelon accompanied by hints of flinty minerality and crushed herbs. While light-bodied and silky but with enough girth to nourish your taste-buds. Like most Sancerre, there is a racy acidity that cools its texture and carries the wines fresh berry aromas and crisp enjoyable mineral flavors well into the finish.
Rosé of Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir that goes into La Belle en Rose is planted on a mix of clay and limestone soils on hillsides facing south and southeast. The grapes are harvested by hand and are lightly pressed. While much like a white wine but with some initial skin contact after crush that allows the wine to pick up its pale pink color. The juice is allowed to settle for a little more than two days in a temperature-controlled environment. Fermentation takes place with natural yeast under cool temperatures. The wine spends a few months on the fine lees before bottling… just in time for rosé season.
Sancerre – Exceptional Pinot too!
Drive two hours south of Paris and you will arrive at the medieval town of Sancerre, perched on a hilltop amidst a sea of vines. Sancerre, of course, is best known for its world-class Sauvignon Blanc, but it also produces some exceptional Pinot Noir grapes, much of which goes into producing super bright and racy rosé wines… like this one.
