Every so often, we’re tickled to discover a remedy for the $100 Cabernet blues hiding right in plain sight. The Grand Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2015 is everything you want in a California red – it’s very approachable, full of deep fruit and smooth tannins and it’s ready to drink right now.
Grand Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2015 is a product of the 2015 vintage, which was small but produced outstanding fruit. Winemaker Tom Rees chose a Left-Bank-inspired blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. Black cherry and cranberry flavors are bolstered by the time spent aging in oak barrels, which graces the wine with warm spice notes of vanilla and nutmeg.

While the Grand Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2015 is a stunning example of this small but truly awesome year. Made from prime plots in Napa and from all five of the allowable varieties in Bordeaux. Yet this beauty was aged for 18 months in French oak and designed for both early drinking—with food—or years of cellaring. Most of all, ripe with a predominantly cherry-inflected fruit profile. Finally, this New World class act is delicately seasoned by its stay in oak with a hint of toasty vanilla on the finish.
Winemaker Tom Rees enjoyed long stints in the cellars of Charles Krug, St. Supéry, and Rombauer, where he honed his talent for small-lot winemaking.
