This distinctive wine was crafted primarily with Pinot Noir grapes. While grown specifically to showcase the attributes we desire in our rosé. Of course, lovingly picked at night. And the grapes are brought to the winery and gently whole cluster pressed while the fruit is still cool. In addition, being careful to have minimal skin contact. Fermentation is entirely in stainless fermenters. Etude Pinot Noir Rosé 2018 does not go through malolactic fermentation. Hence preserving crisp acidity and high toned delicate aromas.
Santa Maria Valley AVA | Santa Barbara County | Sustainable Vineyard
As Santa Barbara County’s northernmost AVA, Santa Maria Valley is renowned for its unique funnel. While created by two transverse mountain ranges running east by west. Pinot Noir excels in this well-known valley uniquely situated just north of Point Conception. Yet despite its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, right where the climate is warm and mild enough to ripen grapes to full maturity. Less than twenty miles from the Pacific Ocean, North Canyon Vineyard sits along the Santa Maria river bench in a secluded canyon. Hence providing some protection from the region’s renowned maritime influences.

Located a bit off the direct valley. While temperatures are often a few degrees warmer and North Canyon is exposed to extended periods of sunshine. Hence ensuring Pinot Noir matures to a bright red fruit character. In addition, planting a variety of rootstocks and clones in calcareous clay sandstone at North Canyon. As a result, differing from the valley’s defining marine mixture of ancient seabed, clay loam, and sand. Plus farming North Canyon to exceptional sustainable standards. And certifying by SIP (Sustainability In Practice).
Winemaker Jon Priest
For more than a decade Jon has fashioned Etude wines with a simple creed. Inspired winegrowing diminishes the need for a winemaker to intervene in the cellar. Whether sourcing from the estate Grace Benoist Ranch in Sonoma’s Los Carneros, or vineyards like Fiddlestix and North Canyon in famed growing regions of California’s Central Coast, his focus is on coaxing the very best from the vineyard. It shows in every glass of Etude.
