Avennia Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah 2015 | Gorgeous Double 97 pointer
Winery | Exotic nose of boysenberry and blueberry reduction, grilled meat, orange peel, and minerals on the nose. First, the palate is rich, round and very concentrated. With mountain berry liqueur, savory meat notes, fresh ground Ethiopian coffee, and liquefied minerals. Put Avennia Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah 2015 in the cellar for 2-3 years, and it will be screaming for a long, long time.” – Chris Peterson, Winemaker

97WA | A true blockbuster in the vintage is the Avennia Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah 2015. Coming from Dick Boushey’s vineyard in the Yakima Valley. First, it was completely destemmed (they put 15% of the stems back) and aged in primarily neutral barrels. As a result, it boasts an inky purple color. Plus spectacular notes of black olives, scorched earth, peppery meats, and black currants. Finally, with a medium to full-bodied richness, gorgeous concentration, and a big finish. It tastes like the essence of Syrah from Washington State. I love it!
97JD | From one of my favorite sites in Yakima Valley, the Avennia Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah 2015 (100% Syrah aged 16 months in 15% new French oak) is inky purple-colored with a gorgeous bouquet of ripe black raspberries, plums, white pepper, spice, and scorched earth. It’s deep, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, with fine tannin, and has a great finish, all making for a brilliant Washington State Syrah. It’s going to keep for 10-15 years.
Dick Boushey & Troubador Arnaut Daniel
For our taste, no one grows finer Syrah in WA than Dick Boushey. So we make this wine with minimal manipulation. In addition, by using native yeasts, bottling unfined and unfiltered, allowing the “place” to shine through. Plus we named it after the Provencal Troubadour Arnaut Daniel. Hence inventing the Sestina poem form, thus creating a connection between our two flagship efforts.
About Avennia
Avennia was founded on the passion to showcase Washington as a unique and compelling place for great wines. So our priority is to acquire fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Washington and allow them to express themselves. We chose to focus on the grape varieties used in Bordeaux and the Rhone, as their similar latitude to Washington makes them a natural fit to excel here.
