Pegasus Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 | 97 Points, Double Gold | Exclusive
Winery | Vibrant and deep ruby red in color, Pegasus Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 delivers beautiful aromas of black cherry and blackberries. In addition undertones of licorice and a touch of butterscotch. While a silky palate opens with a burst of blackcurrant followed by earth tones of sweet leaf cigar tobacco, leather, and vanilla, And finishing with round velvety tannins. Well balanced and drinking well now. Cellars well – drink now thru 2025+.
91WE | Deep blackberry syrup, chipped slate and sharp black-plum skins show on the nose of Pegasus Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. The tannins are very chalky and a bit overwhelming on the palate at first. But then open revealing zesty but dense blackberry fruit and a touch of peppercorn. So a solid choice now, yet drinking even better in a couple years. (Feb 2017)
Pegasus Estate Winery | Santy Ynez Valley
PEGASUS Estate Winery is centrally located in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley in the town of Solvang. After searching for just the right plot of land in the Santa Ynez Valley, Peg and Mike Crowley’s plans to develop an elaborate equestrian center and a winery finally came about and PEGASUS Estate Winery was born. Peg and Mike sought to obtain land similar to the wine growing regions in Bordeaux and when they found a hillside sloped location, rich fertile soil as the site. While facing the afternoon sun and protected from the winds. In addition, with a terroir composed of sandy loam with areas of gravel and clay. Most of all overlooking a beautiful flowing creek, they knew that they had reached Mecca!
Winemaker Ken Brown | Central Coast Founding Father
(Byron) Kent Brown, aka “Ken Brown” is recognized as one of the Central Coasts founding fathers of winemaking. In addition, a key innovator in the wine industry in Santa Barbara County. In 1977 Zaca Mesa Winery recognized the distinct opportunity of Ken’s natural merits and Ken Brown’s commercial winemaking career was launched! The wines produced became an immediate success.
Robert Mondavi (Family Wines) came in hot pursuit of catching a rising star. Eventually striking a deal with Ken to purchase his Byron Winery in 1990. Then in 2003 with the blessings of the Mondavi family, Ken refocused his attention on the Central Coast Santa Ynez Valley. Setting out to launch his next promising venture, Ken Brown Wines. And in 2005 Ken released his first of many award-winning vintages!
