Kinfolk Red Wine 2016 | Add this to your wine family!
Kinfolk Red Wine 2016 presents a deep ruby in color. While vibrant aromatics of black fruit—cherry, plum, cassis, and blackberry—emanate from the glass. And while opening, reveals hints of tobacco, mocha, and baking spice. Full-bodied across the palate and with a silken texture, this shows ripe black fruit balanced by undertones of river-rock minerality and hints of black pepper, nutmeg, and clove. In addition, the tannins are fine-grained but firm and will continue to develop for the next decade. So, this is a rare steal that’s great today but will only get better with time, too. From Winemaker par excellence, Britt Nichols. Enjoy now through 2028.
Amazing Red Gems under $35
We can’t name names, but Britt had struck up a conversation with one of the most conscientious, passionate personalities in the entire Napa Valley, a grower whose Coombsville stronghold is well known for its inky and aromatic Bordeaux varieties. Among other raves from practically every important critic, Wine Enthusiast has called wines grown in these vineyards “massively constructed” and “deeply impressive,” and bottlings often hit the market at around $75.
Putting it all together
Britt added some fruit from an up-valley estate, a St. Helena stalwart that has been producing grapes for over 150 years. Organic farming on the primarily alluvial soils, gorgeously mature vines, and hand-picking have combined here to result in wines of balance, complexity, and unforgettable length.

Britt talked about the art of blending as she poured the ruby ‘16 for us. “I actually prefer to make red blends, to be honest,” she explained. “I get really excited by the flexibility I have when I’m working with multiple grape varieties. It’s like, I can express the land and the fruit and myself better through the blends. Plus, I think they provide a bigger bang for the buck, which is only one of the reasons I tend to drink them so often myself!”. Obviously, Britt exuded the same excitement about this Kinfolk Red Wine 2016 as we have.
Winemaker Britt Nichols
Winemaker Britt Nichols has more pedigree than many winemakers twice her age. And with time spent at Jordan Winery and alongside legends Nicolas Morlet and Philippe Melka. Like those of her mentors, Britt’s Cabernets are deep in color, rich, and intensely concentrated. Yet unlike all too many Napa Valley Cabernets, these are also wines of great class, sleekness, and polish.
