Kapcsandy State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée 2014 presents deep ruby with subtle garnet hue to the rim. Seamlessly integrated aromas of black currant, blueberry, vanilla, and violets, open to subtle flourishes of cardamom, allspice, damp earth, and tobacco leaf. The mouthfeel shows no hard edges, with lively red currant and plum fruits on the mid-palate, finishing with toasted oak spice, all surrounded by velvety tannins, cut by precisely balanced acidity.  Long and subtle, the wine marries the balance of Bordeaux with ripe Napa fruit. Showing the beginnings of secondary aromatic development, its structure will allow it to improve further in the cellar. Drink now-2040.

It’s become a cliché, but we fundamentally agree that great wines are made in the vineyard. That’s why, upon taking ownership of the historic State Lane Vineyard, we conducted extensive soil and microclimate tests. We embarked upon a complete replant of the site to 15 specific blocks.  Now dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. And we engaged NASA to provide satellite imagery of our new vineyard to determine the best row direction for re-planting. The magnetic North-South direction has proven to be ideal for uniform ripening. Hence, producing a perfect balance between sugars and acidity of the grapes at harvest.!  And We’re proud to use sustainable practices in both our vineyards and our winery.

95+ AG | The Kapcsandy State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée 2014 is vibrant, intense and beautifully delineated. Super-expressive aromatics and finessed tannins give the 2014 its exceptional balance. Tasted next to the 2013, the 2014 feels like it has more freshness, brighter acidity and a bit more energy as well.   Which may be partly attributable to the slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend and a touch less new oak as well. That is, of course, splitting hairs, as both wines are superb, but I find the energy, tension, and vibrancy here absolutely compelling.

Tony Arcudi left the security of a well-established career and followed his passion for wine.   While a graduated from UC Davis’s renowned oenological program and trained in France at Rhône-based Maison M. Chapoutier.   Then returning to the Napa Valley, he served as assistant winemaker at Nickel & Nickel in Oakville.
