Hesperian Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 | Subtle, noble & terrific
93JS | Hesperian Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 presents aromas of blackberries and blueberries with hints of sweet tobacco. While full body and solid and chewy tannins. Powerful finish. Structured and rich red. Better in 2019.
So here’s a subtle and noble Napa Valley Cabernet—from the humble and gifted winemaker Philippe Langner. Hesperian Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 will prove gloriously drinkable not just now, but in the years to come. Balanced and rich, this wine from multiple AVAs in Napa displays aromas of cassis, new leather, milk chocolate, and black cherries. It’s built for pleasure, and it’s built for tonight. Bravo Philippe!

Bringing Hesperian back from the fires
While Philippe is fine, as are his Atlas Peak vines, his home and offices did burn completely to the ground in early October. While his positive energy and outlook are just unbelievable, and what would have made most of us want to just give up, seems to have inspired a renewed spirit in Philippe. Yet, he is determined to rebuild his home and keep making the wines he loves from his estate vines. We were ardent supporters of this wine before this tragic event, and we are even more enthusiastic about this delicious project and want to share as much of it as we can with those who love the Napa Valley, and great wines.
Gifted Winemaker Philippe Langner
Philippe Langner grew up in Africa where he developed a fascination with plants and their lifecycle. After earning a Master’s degree in Agronomy AND Agricultural Economics from the esteemed University of California at Davis, he returned home to France where he started working at Chateau Clarke, a Rothschild property in Bordeaux. This is where Philippe’s love of winemaking stemmed. At Chateau Clarke, Philippe worked alongside two of Bordeaux’s most esteemed winemakers, Michel Rolland and Jacques Boissenot.
So in 2001, Philippe came back to California where he met the Sullivan Family in Rutherford, in the Napa Valley. Subsequently spending 9 years as the viticulturist and winemaker. Today, Philippe has his own 14-acre property on Atlas Peak. And now making wine under his own label, Hesperian, which is a small production age-worthy cabernet. Being from France, Philippe personifies the mindset that Cabernet should also be enjoyed now and every day. He then started his second label, Anatomy, to be able to bring quality Napa Valley Cabernet to everyone. And truly, this wine is stunning!
