G Wine Mountains Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 | Rich, Dense, Age-Worthy
G Wine Mountains Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 displays a dense purple color that stains the glass. Luscious, almost confected on the nose. In addition with aromas of baked blackberries, black currant, and blueberry as well as complex hints of mint, pie spice, and cocoa nibs. A linebacker on the palate. Broad-shouldered and full of ripe fruit, but showing a long finish full of dense, chewy tannins and warm black fruits. While enjoyable now, for its youthful vigor, but will be even better in 2-3 years as it mellows.
Winery | On the nose, G Wine Mountains Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is red fruit dominant, co-mingled with spices such as Herbes de Provence, and hints of toasted oak. So as you begin to taste, the wine immediately exhibits the great structure of fine grain tannins from both the mountain fruit and the French oak gripping the mid-palate. While the rich body of red fruit is complemented with hints of vanilla. This wine is rich, so we do recommend some time in the decanter if you want to enjoy it now. We believe it’s prime drinking window to be between 10-15 years.
G Wine Cellars | Proprietor and Grower Garret Ahnfeldt
G Cellars is by definition under-the-radar—so much so that even we hadn’t heard of it. And we were happy to learn that it’s not just a vanity bottling or some sort of proto version of a ”New Screagle” that’s already asking north of $300 a bottle. No, the talent behind this label is pure pedigree. Most of all, produced by Garret Ahnfeldt, a second-generation Napa Valley grower, with assistance from the one and only Tim Milos.
G Wine Cellars is a culmination of friendship, talent, and passion for our grassroots here in the Napa Valley. It is only fitting that our company is titled “A Ground Floor Production. Our focus is on producing small lots of premium wine from different growing regions of the Napa Valley. Our ability to control the variables in the vineyard by maintaining and farming our small-block vineyards ourselves. Hence allowing our wines to be a greater reflection of the distinct characteristics of the region and less an individual farming practice. Spotlighting the great mountain districts of the Napa Valley as our main grape source exposes the true bold tannin structured style wines that G Wine Cellars creates.
Winemaker Tim Milos
By now our clients are quite familiar with Milos’ work. As he’s the perfect-scoring winemaker behind stellar vintages of Opus One, Stag’s Leap, Cliff Lede, and Hidden Ridge. In his peerless fashion, Milos instructed Garret how to coax tremendous elegance and finesse out the structurally massive mountain fruit. Never sent for review, only offered to Garret’s mailing list and wherever he could land a placement in Napa Valley. So this is your ticket to an insider beauty from a winemaker who is sure to make waves. Get in now.
