Favia Quarzo Syrah 2013 | Impressive Must Buy from Screaming Eagle Alums
Favia Quarzo Syrah 2013 presents deep ruby with purple flecks. While impressively complex with aromas of blackberry, incense, violets, black pepper, and smoked herbs. Gorgeous on the palate with intense black fruits and muddled savory herbs. Finally, dense but silky tannins and a finish that lasts for days. Beautiful, quietly powerful, and laden with layer upon layer of enjoyment in both the short and the long-term.
92WS | Favia Quarzo Syrah 2013 is compact and powerfully built. Starts with blackberry and smoky licorice aromas leading to dark plum. While finishing with peppered beef and grilled herb notes, framed by muscular tannins. Needs time. Best after 2018. 280 cases made.
Favia Erickson Winegrowers
We are partners, a family, a team. And there is our home — a house and cellar, gardens and fruit trees: a collaboration that has meandered across generations, its stone first laid by Napa Valley’s earliest Italian immigrants. Our collaboration then wends outward and into the neighboring hills, visiting familiar vines and their tending hands. In these vineyards, curiosity and humility assemble to listen closely to the history of ancient soils, the natural currents of every day, and the myriad voices of those who foster the patient growth and harvest of our grapes. Favia is a celebration of a place and its people.
Time, too, is our partner, immense and inexorable. We encounter millennia in the volcanic upheaval of our surrounds. Our vines enunciate the intricacies of the four seasons. Our stone cellar echoes with a memory of vintages a century past. And finally, our work rests in the barrel, quietly finding its voice over years. At its center, our work is a partnership with Nature. With reverence, we usher our bounty toward a new expression; we seek to bottle a glimpse of a time and place.
Winemaking Due Annie Favia & Andy Erickson
As a winemaker, Andy has worked for and learned from the best: Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Ovid, Dancing Hares and Arietta. Annie honed her career under John Kongsgaard and Cathy Corison before working out in the vineyards with David Abreu, viticulturist to the brightest stars in Napa’s ecosystem (Harlan Estate, Bryant Family and several of Erickson’s clients).
Together, they are second to none. If you are not on the mailing list, here’s your chance to take advantage of their spectacular wines.
