A Reserve Meritage
The Estancia Meritage designation on the label assures that this wine is a blend of at least two of the red Bordeaux varieties. With this vintage of our rich and complex 2013 Meritage, we blended 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon provides a foundation of dark fruits, structure, and density; Merlot rounds out the mid-palate with luscious fruit; and Petit Verdot adds support with additional tannins, rich color, and incredible fruit freshness. We aged all of the wine in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 18 months.
The Paso Robles Keyes Canyon Vineyard
Our Estancia Meritage showcases the finest red blend from our Paso Robles vineyards. Our Keyes Canyon Vineyard, situated along the banks of the Estrella River, offers a distinctive combination of gravelly and sandy clay loam soil types for ripening the individual blocks of Bordeaux varieties. Hot days pair with the cool nights of the Paso Robles AVA. The combination allows for an extended growing season in which flavor, skin, and seed tannin maturity can be achieved while maintaining balanced acidity. This Bordeaux blend upholds the fact that stressed vines make the best wine.
The Estancia Winery
Estancia, based in Monterey, was founded in 1986. The name Estancia translates roughly from the Spanish word for “estate. Estancia emphasizes our conviction that the world’s best wines capture the essence of their place of origin. At Estancia we control the process from the start—from the trials in our experimental vineyard blocks to planting, harvesting, fermenting and aging the wines. We’ve built a winery that allows us to devote the same attention to detail in winemaking that we give to our grapes.
