Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 | New Napa Proprietary Red 1st Release
The Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 is bold, rich, opulent Napa Proprietary Red Wine. Dark-ruby in color with abundant ripe wild black and blue fruits, dried herbs, licorice with cinnamon, and chocolate and vanilla French oak. The palate is rich and creamy, with balancing freshness and supple, chewy tannins. Developed by Matt Deller MW (Master of Wine).
Master of Wine Matt Deller has verifiably tasted over 150,000 wines. When asked how many make him this happy, he just grinned. Others who have tasted Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 insist this is a $100 wine. Your faith will be rewarded when you grab this Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 for only $29.
With Cabernet from the St. Helena AVA (sourced from a winery that ordinarily sells their wines for $100), with a bit of Merlot and Malbec from the Carneros vineyard of Napa’s most famous grower, this Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 final blend was culled together after 18 months of aging in French oak, of which 50 percent is new, lending brilliantly integrated sweet spice and structure.
An opportunity you should not miss! Back in Stock
Napa opportunities like this come only so often. In 2015, more than a few stalwart producers wound up with world-class fruit, but not enough to justify bottling one or more of their tasting-room-only, rich, decadent reds — the kind our own Master of Wine likes to enjoy at home. So it was pure serendipity when the moment to act came after one mid-summer meeting with a St. Helena winery that ordinarily sells their Cabernet for $100 a bottle.
A handshake deal brings us to one of the most exciting moments in Wine Access history. We are thrilled to introduce the first-ever release of this project: the Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015, a rich and creamy cuvée packed with abundant ripe black and blue fruit, spices, and chocolate and vanilla flavors, balanced by supple, chewy tannins. It’s worthy of a $100 price tag but is only $29 per bottle. Secure your share now, and then keep reading.
The Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 Story
Last week, at Napa’s hottest new wine bar, Compline, I had my first taste of Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015 — Matt Deller MW’s own wine project. But that lunch meeting began in an unusual way. Matt requested that we take separate vehicles, but didn’t say why. I was the first to arrive at the restaurant and spent a good deal of time thumbing through emails. When Matt finally showed up, he was holding an elegant bottle, the wine’s “Delightful and Strange” name emblazoned in a graceful font on top of a striking steampunk octopus.
As it turned out, his first stop was to a winery to pick up the bottle. Strict NDAs, he explained, had him sworn to complete secrecy from blending to bottle. It dawned on me that we had to take separate cars because even I couldn’t be privy to the full details, let alone the source. So, I put on my journalist hat and got down to business.
Wagyu-beef burgers plus Delightful & Strange!
Two hand-packed Wagyu-beef burgers sandwiched between Model Bakery brioche buns landed on our table, accompanied by duck-fat fries. “It’s the best burger in Napa,” Matt said. One bite and I was nodding in agreement. But what came next was even better, as I savored a glass of Delightful and Strange Red Blend 2015. Simply delicious.
As we each scooped up the last fries on our plates, I asked Matt if he knew how many wines he’s tasted in his lifetime. After a brief pause, and a heady calculation, even he was astonished by the answer: “About 150,000.”
“And how many make you this happy?” I asked, pointing to the empty bottle of Delightful & Strange. He grinned and slightly shook his head.
I invite you to experience the richness, the joy, and to embrace the mystery of this sumptuous Napa red, on this Wine Access first from Matt. Secure your share now.
