Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori 2013 | Alluring & Authentic
Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori 2013 opens with aromas of red fruit with notes of balsamic and spice. While on the palate, flavors of berries and earth are supported by a firm structure and supple tannins. The flavors are balanced, with light acidity – typical of the Sangiovese grape.
91RP | Based in an authentic sense of territory, the Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori 2013 is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot – although Renzo Cotarella tells me that the goal is to soon make this wine 100% Sangiovese. The bouquet is generous and nicely concentrated with dark fruit nuances and succulent spice at the back. Delicate floral nuances of wild rose and violets are given ample room for expression. The mouthfeel is velvety and fine in texture.
More Accolades! | Impressive & Energetic
92JS | Lots of blue fruits and violets to this wine. While full-bodied, chewy tannins, and a tangy, fresh finish. Very intense. Better in 2017 but impressive and energetic now.
91WE | First, you’ll find alluring aromas of fragrant blue flower, wild berry, menthol, dried herb and a whiff of exotic spice on this radiant red. Then, the juicy palate shows surprising richness for the vintage. Finally, Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori 2013 expresses ripe black cherry, crushed raspberry, vanilla and cinnamon alongside polished, fine-grained tannins that leave a firm finish.”
90WS | Fresh and vibrant, this red displays cherry, strawberry, tobacco, spice and mineral flavors. The firm structure lends plenty of support and the finish evokes tobacco, earth and underbrush notes. Best from 2018 through 2023.
Villa Antinori & Family
From 2010 on Villa Antinori has found a second youth and, with the opening of the new Chianti Classico cellars, a new home as well. So, the Antinori family, with this offering, has wished to render homage to a historic label and a wine with a long tradition. The first vintage was the 1928 and, up until the year 2000, the wine represented over time the house’s concept of Chianti Classico.
The Antinori family of Florence, one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century. Now celebrating its 625th anniversary as winemakers in 2010. The current company president, Marchese Piero Antinori, believes in the tradition. Specifically that the primary role of wine is to accompany food and enhance the dining experience. In Florence, the Antinori family has led a “Renaissance” in Italian winemaking. Notably by combining long traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit.
