Bedrock Wine Company takes immense pride in the quality of this wine.   Most of all reflecting how good California’s beloved Zinfandel can be. Comprising about 88% Zinfandel blended with Petite Sirah, Carignan & Alicante Bouschet and many different interplanted varieties that maintain poise and add complexity and structure. About the Winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson – Ravenswood sound familiar?

If Morgan Twain-Peterson’s upbringing as the son of legendary Ravenswood Winery founder Joel Peterson deserves a mention, it is partially because Morgan himself has such reverence for history. If the mention is brief, it is because the 100-point winemaker’s present pursuits and stellar reputation have managed to push his pedigree into the background. Robert Parker is a fan who has gotten to know Morgan.  Parker wrote that Morgan “has built his Bedrock Wine Co. into a world-class performer.   Parker’s raves about Morgan’s “Midas touch” are backed by the two perfect 100-point scores he has bestowed on the wines of Twain-Peterson and his partner Chris Cottrell.

Twain-Peterson’s mind and mission center on old vines while assuring that 80 percent of the vines he and his partner Chris Cottrell work with are at least 80 years old. The 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Co-Winemaker of the Year believes the conventional wisdom that older vines mean more concentration.   Furthermore, in the vineyard, only the exceptional survive: “If a vineyard has lasted through two world wars (and) Prohibition, it must be special.”

Bedrock Wine Company was founded in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson in a 550 square-foot, former chicken coop.   After six years of Bedrock being a one-man-show, Morgan got his best friend, Chris Cottrell to join him. They now happily have a little more space to move around in. Yet they share the same objectives that guided the winery at the start.
